Lord Cormack

“It is a great honour to have been asked to become Chairman of the Historic Lincoln Trust. I was a Staffordshire Member of Parliament for forty years and, although I will always have the fondest affection for my adopted County, and will retain strong links with it, Lincolnshire is the County of my birth and it was, therefore, a great joy to move within a hundred yards of the Cathedral in 2011.

Throughout my career, I have been closely involved with heritage matters. I founded the All-Party Arts and Heritage Group in Parliament, the largest group of its kind, in the early-1970s, and was its Chairman for over thirty years. When I wrote a book on English Cathedrals, I came to the conclusion that both Ruskin and Pugin were right, and that Lincoln is England’s finest Cathedral. I am equally convinced that the Cathedral, Castle and ancient city of Lincoln, are well worthy of world heritage status. So I am glad to have an opportunity of working with the wonderful people who work tirelessly to conserve our historic buildings.”
