Volunteer guiding opportunities at Lincoln Castle

Lincoln has attracted visitors since Roman times, and the current work to restore the castle through the Lincoln Castle Revealed project will encourage more people to visit the city. The castle guides play a central role in helping guests from all over the world to explore this fabulous heritage site and to enhance their experience.

The guides all belong to The Friends of Lincoln Castle, an independent charity dedicated to the support of the castle, and come from all walks of life, sharing a common enthusiasm for history and meeting people. Last year they took 15,000 visitors around the site on guided tours.

Given the current redevelopment of the castle it is likely that there will be a need for more guides to cope with an expected increase in visitor numbers by 2015.

The Friends of Lincoln Castle are recruiting for new volunteer guides now!

Becoming part of a team of guides is supported by thorough training. The guiding training course starts in January 2014 and ends in early April. It is quite demanding, requiring attendance on a Wednesday evening for classroom based tuition, and practical training on a Saturday morning, but all who have completed the course have found it to be very rewarding.
