Lord Cormack’s Monthly Message
The most remarkable and memorable event this month has undoubtedly been the raising of the Saxon sarcophagus, discovered in the summer in the hitherto unknown Saxon church within the walls of Lincoln Castle.
We still do not know the identity of the skeleton other than that it is of a male. He was almost certainly of high rank to have been buried in such a way and in such a place. The fact that his feet were shod in leather, is another indication of his importance.
We hope that our first visitors to Lincoln Castle Revealed in 2015 will be able to see the sarcophagus, and we hope too that by then we shall know much more about the occupant, and perhaps even who he was.
