Lincoln Cathedral Connected

Lincoln’s Cathedral and Close have been shaped by many people and events, and the stories surrounding these places provide an instant and compelling link with the past. The project team for Lincoln Cathedral Connected  has been busy over the past few months developing the proposals and working with the newly-appointed design team on a revised bid which has recently been submitted to the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Lincoln Cathedral Connected  is a £13.3m scheme which will see the development of new visitor facilities with an interpretation centre and learning spaces, along with conservation work. Lincoln Cathedral demonstrates the incredible skill of the craftsmen and women who have built and maintained it over the centuries; a tradition continued today by the 30 strong works department. The project will include conservation of some of the Cathedral’s most precious and internationally important architecture, and in addition, restoration of the Close’s historic character will create new areas which can offer dynamic and welcoming spaces.

The project aims to engage people with the Cathedral’s history, archaeology and architecture in many ways – through volunteering opportunities, partnership projects, and activities and events which will inspire, educate and inform. This exciting and ambitious project will transform the visitor experience and encourage a wider range of people to visit and become involved with the Cathedral.

The project will support the co-operation between the Cathedral and the city’s other tourist attractions to promote a high quality tourist ‘package’, making a substantial contribution to the economy of the city, county and to the region.
