European Stone Festival big success for Historic Lincoln
150 stone masons travelled from all over the world to show off their craft at the European Stone Festival. This event moves to a different cathedral city each year and the sights and sounds of this number of masons gathered together is quite extraordinary. They worked to a theme of Food and Farming and some exceptional pieces were created which were auctioned on the final day raising money for Lincoln Cathedral funds.
At Lincoln Castle some 50 crafts and skills were demonstrated throughout the grounds. Everything from lobster pot makers, blacksmiths, willow work, stained glass to chainsaw sculptures. Sponsored by HLF, younger visitors had a whole range of skills to try their hand at in the children’s marquee and the recent archaeological finds were on display. The just completed South Curtain Wall Walk was open to visitors for the first time and this proved very popular. Guided tours of the Wall Walk will now take place every day at 12.30pm.
