Glorious Treasures

As part of the celebrations to mark the 800^th anniversary of Magna Carta, Lincoln will be hosting a unique exhibition in venues across the city from June to September this year.

The Historic Lincoln Trust is working with partners on a key event that will take place during the summer – Lincolnshire’s Great Exhibition which will display a nationally important collection of pictures, documents and artefacts with a Lincolnshire connection. The exhibition will be open to the public from 27 June until 27 September, based in the Usher Gallery and the Collection, the Medieval and Wren Libraries in the Cathedral, and in the Castle. 

The exhibition will have a section devoted to great Lincolnshire figures, from Gilbert of Sempringham, who founded the only English monastic order in Lincolnshire in the 12^th century, to Margaret Thatcher, our Country’s only female Prime Minster and the longest serving Prime Minister of democratic times. Other famous Lincolnshire people, such as Sir Isaac Newton, George Boole, John Wesley and Alfred, Lord Tennyson will be represented, along with great explorers  – Sir Joseph Banks, George Bass and Matthew Flinders.

Also in the exhibition will be notable works by Turner, De Wint, and Stubbs.

The Trust is working with the British Library, the National Archives, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the National Portrait Gallery, and many other important public and private collections to agree loans to make this a magnificent exhibition.
