Lord Cormack’s Monthly Message
The first of the great celebratory events to mark Magna Carta’s 800th anniversary will be a special service in the Cathedral. This will be followed, between the 18th and 22nd June 2015 with an Eastern Three Choirs Festival. The choirs of Lincoln, Peterborough and Southwell Cathedrals will come together for a feast of mainly English music. On the 18th itself there will be an opening gala evening featuring Tasmin Little, the world renowned violinist and she will be accompanied by Australia’s most famous pianist, Piers Lane, in a programme of music which will also feature at least one of the Cathedral choirs.
There will be a series of recitals and special services over the following three days, including another gala concert on the Saturday evening.
In my next message I hope to be able to give the precise opening date of Lincolnshire’s Great Exhibition which, as indicated before, will run in the Castle, the Cathedral Libraries, the Collection and the Usher Gallery. It will begin towards the end of June and run until the last weekend in September 2015 and will be the greatest exhibition that Lincoln has ever seen.
