Heritage Skills Centre hosts hands-on tapestries project

The Heritage Skills Centre, at Lincoln Castle, is currently home to a conservation project aimed at lovingly staving off the decay of six 400 year old tapestries from Doddington Hall’s Holly bedroom.

With 2 conservators working full time on site and an expert consultant making regular visits, the tapestry project brings high level conservation work to the centre as they embark on building their programme of traditional craft and building skills courses. Over the Easter weekend the tapestry conservators will be on site to talk to visitors about the painstaking process being undertaken to repair these beautiful textiles and safeguard them for the next few hundred years.

There will be other craft demonstrations taking place too – Strawberry Glass will be demonstrating both leaded and copper foil stained glass work on Friday 18^th April, with opportunities for visitors to ‘have a go’ and contribute towards a piece of work for display in the Heritage Skills Centre.

Artist Toni Watts will be at the centre on Sunday 20th April demonstrating how illuminated manuscripts were produced by medieval scribes, and medieval potter, Shaun Clarke, will be offering hands on demonstrations of tile making on Monday 21st April for visitors of all ages.

Visitors will also be able to find out about forthcoming courses and events at the Heritage Skills Centre.  The Heritage Skills Centre will be open from 10am to 4:30pm, Friday 18^th to Monday 21st April, and entrance to the centre is included in the price of admission to Lincoln Castle.
