The finds go on

The challenging lift of the Saxon sarcophagus won’t happen until September, but delightful finds are still being removed from the archaeological digs. We have found the doorway to a 12^th century stable, clearly something of a gambling den as seven tiny bone dice have been found.

A Roman coin from the time of Emperor Constantine is very worn, but Romulus, Remus and the she wolf can still be made out. Lace chapes, an ear scoop, a goose bone whistle, 12^th century dress pins and part of a 10^th century ice skate are just a selection from the intriguing finds; some of which will be displayed at the Castle soon.
