Discover Lincolnshire Weekend

Across the city and county visitors and residents will be able to explore some of Lincolnshire’s fascinating attractions free of charge during the annual Discover Lincolnshire Weekend, on the 18th and 19th of March. Here are a few of the highlights:

• Lincoln Cathedral will be offering free entry over the weekend. You can discover more about the history of the Cathedral by joining one of the tours which will be available throughout the day on Saturday 18th March. Tours will have a charge of £4 per person – there’s no need to book in advance, you can arrange this on your arrival at the reception desk.
• The International Bomber Command Centre is being created in Lincoln to provide a world-class facility to serve as a point for recognition, remembrance and reconciliation for Bomber Command. Visitors are welcome to come along to an Open Day on Sunday 19th March, between 10:30am – 3:30pm. As the centre is still under construction and not yet open to the public, this day will be an excellent opportunity to find out more about the memorial and the centre. Tour Guides will be able to answer questions and to give information on the project, and the Digital Archive Team for the project will also be present to discuss the Archive and the preservation of documents.
• Local history expert Dorothy Moss will lead a Jewish history trail of Lincoln on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th March to explore the links that exist today to the city’s medieval Jewish community. The trail starts at 1:30pm from Lincoln Visitor Information Centre and will explore the Cathedral Quarter as far south as Jew’s House on The Strait. • Cogglesford Watermill in the market town of Sleaford will be open with free entry from 11am – 4:30pm on both Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th March. Discover the history of this historic watermill, and taste some of Lincolnshire’s delicacies – plum bread and cheese.
• Discover traditional ironworking at the Victorian forge located in the heart of the village of Welbourn, especially open on Saturday 18th March from 10am to 1pm. This former forge and blacksmith’s workshop dates back to 1864 and is still in working condition.
