Lincolnshire’s Great Exhibition has reached its halfway stage and has another six weeks to run before closing on September 27^th. To date almost 10,000 people have visited the exhibition in The Collection and in the Usher where admission is free. I would urge as many as possible to take the unique opportunity which Lincolnshire’s Great Exhibition offers. There has never been such a remarkable collection of pictures, manuscripts and other works of art, all with a Lincolnshire connection, displayed in our county and these wonderful things will never come together again.

The stars of the exhibition include the Luttrell Psalter, the greatest of all medieval manuscripts; the Heneage Jewel, given by Queen Elizabeth I to Sir Thomas Heneage perhaps the finest of all Tudor Jewels; marvellous silver gilt race trophies from the Royal Collection, a unique medieval altarpiece depicting St Hugh and his swan and portraits of Isaac Newton, John Wesley, Lord Burghley and Margaret Thatcher. In the Usher is the most remarkable exhibition of the work of George Stubbs since the great exhibition in the Tate some years ago. In all there are around 150 wonderful treasures in the Usher and the Collection and others in the Cathedral Library. There is also a 1225 copy of Magna Carta alongside Lincoln Cathedral’s own Magna Carta in the Magna Carta Vault in the Castle grounds. I would urge those who have not yet seen these remarkable treasures to do so.
